Staff
One of the greatest hallmarks of our program, Hayground Camp's staff comprises dedicated professionals who love what they do and care about each and every child's experience.
Each summer, the majority of our staff is composed of returning counselors, many of whom have been with us for five or more years. Most of our head counselors are seasoned teachers who know how to organize and delegate, and have a strong sense of what is developmentally appropriate.
In each group, head counselors are supported by a staff of assistant and junior counselors, many of whom began as campers themselves. Hayground maintains a high counselor-to-camper ratio--our youngest age groups have 1 counselor for every 3 to 4 campers; older age groups have 1 counselor for every 5 to 6 campers.
In addition to our counseling staff, Hayground has professionals in charge of our art, woodshop, kitchen, garden, pool and sports programs. They each have a staff to ensure that these activities are safe and well supervised.
We have a diverse staff, with counselors from all over the globe. Many of our high school and college-aged staff are from New York City or the Hamptons.
There is a strong tradition of mentoring at Hayground. The fact that many of our campers become counselors reflects the importance we place on creating a caring community where we look for the growth of our children from year to year rather than from day to day.
